Definitions
Water Mist : A water spray for which the mean droplet size (DV 0.99) is less than 1000 µ or 1mm
Ultramist : A low pressure water mist system designed and manufactured by Ultra Fire Group
Ultrafog : A high pressure water mist system designed and manufactured by Ultra Fire Group
Ultraguard : A low pressure self contained standalone water mist system designed and manufactured by Ultra Fire Group
Low Pressure : A system where the pressure is designed not to exceed 12.1bar or 175 psi
High Pressure : A system where the pressure is designed to exceed 34.5bar to 500psi
Automatic Nozzle : A nozzle that is normally closed and operates independently of other nozzles by means of a heat sensitive bulb fitted within the nozzle.
Open Nozzle : A nozzle that is permanently open, normally as part of a group of nozzles allowing a total discharge.
Wet Pipe System : A system using open automatic nozzles connected to a water supply where the pipes are water filled so that the operation of any heat sensitive bulb will cause immediate discharge.
Dry Pipe System : A system using open nozzles connected to a water supply through a normally closed valve, operated either manually or automatically through a detection system, causing a discharge through all connected nozzles simultaneously.
Pre-Action System : A system using automatic nozzles connected to a water supply through a normally closed valve, operated automatically through a detection system, the pipers are normally dry and fill with water when the valve is opened, filling the pipes with water so that the operation of any heat sensitive bulb will cause an immediate discharge.
Pumped System : A system where the flow is generated by means of a pump unit, normally electrically powered, giving a continuous and constant flow for as long as the water supply is available.
Cylinder System : A system where the flow is generated by means of stored pressure vessels, normally using Nitrogen as a propellant, giving a finite supply as part of a pre-engineered system.
Fire Control : The process of limiting the growth of a fire by pre wetting surrounding combustibles.
Fire Suppression : The process of reducing the heat release of a fire and preventing any re-growth
Fire Extinguishment : The complete suppression of a fire until no burning combustibles remain.
